The late, great Christopher Hitchens said that the sign of a good education was the acceptance of knowing just how much you don’t know. I know what I know. Or, at least I think I do. There may be many things I don’t remember, but I don’t know what they are. What about all my memories from every day over my 43 years? Are they still in my head? And what is a memory anyway?
There are things we know. For example, the earth takes 365 days to orbit the sun, and spins on its axis every 24 hours. This is difficult to argue against, and even the Catholic church under the papacy of John Paul II offered and apology to Galilieo Galilae. Knowledge that the Catholic church was wrong could possibly challenge their authority, so he lost out.
