Helsinki……..
People in other countries speak other languages. Obvious I know. But you can kind of know things without something dawning on you, and having the penny drop.
I knew that everyone that you need to speak English, speaks English, and they are fine with that. Honestly, they’re fine, just fine. And money changes hands just like everywhere else. No! Not that type of money changing hands. Even if all these financial interactions seems to be with women.
Perhaps I missed it last time I was here, but I’m hearing more Finish spoken when I’m out. On the plus side. Finns are quietly spoken people, and I can’t understand what they are saying. There’s just a little bit of disappointment (on both parts) when they open with something in Finnish and I open with “hello”.
Fortunately, the World Wide Web has all the answers I need. Unfortunately, I fear that my capacity to learn cannot keep up. But maybe, just maybe I might get my old brain in to gear and start doing the great things out brains can let us do. I really hope so, because I could not be described as an over achiever.
As an aside – I’ve just watch Sweden beat Russia in ice hockey.
