Battery Anxiety

I have 39 minutes left on my laptop. Let’s be quick! Oh no, 1hr 05mins with battery saver. Phew! Why am I worrying about this? Three blogs in one day is pretty good. I feel like I’ve had a little release and my think about that book again. Or maybe just getting some article published. I don’t really care, just doing something feels pretty good.

Today, I bought a Nintendo Switch with Zelda. 1400 tomorrow is my collection day. It’s a little treat to myself for getting a few jobs done. But there are always little extras. I was in Game and saw a charging dock for controllers! That’s something else to charge. But you know what? I’m not bothered about that. None of this is really important. It’s not like batteries running out on a pacemaker that keeps your heart beating in time.

There’s battery power to worry about on my 4G Mi-Fi and on my my mobile phone, but that’s covered with an external power pack. The last time I looked, it was down to two lights instead of a full charge of four. Oh no!

21% and 51 minutes left……………

Batteries are making the world better – rechargeable ones anyway. Landfill sites around the world will be full of old batteries leaking heavy metals in to the environment. Lets’s hope that doesn’t catch up with us. It will, make no mistake about that, but probably not now, and definitely not us.

Rechargeable batteries will save us. Cars and aircraft will produce no pollution and our air will be fresh once again. There’s the stories off awful pollution to the environment where they are produced, but let’s not worry about that.

I’d have an electric car now if they weren’t so expensive. Even the small cars are around £20,000. And new words have entered the lexicon – “range anxiety”.  We have cars, so we can be somewhere at the drop of a hat in case of emergencies.

During the last big hurricane to hit Florida, Tesla sent a software update to extend the range of their less expensive models, so that drivers could drive further to avoid the severe weather.

51 mins and 17% remaining……………..

Anyway, the main difference between one model and another was some software controlling the range of the car. I don’t know how many $’s difference between the cars was, but I expect it was significant. And it could be pricing strategies of other manufactures that it is giving the public the idea that electric cars won’t drive as far on a charge as they possibly could.

The truth is that if electric cars could provide the range we need, enough batteries could not be produced. And if they were, the energy used to produce them would cause more problems with pollution than we have now.

So it seems that electric cars will be a lifestyle choice for people who are lucky enough to afford them, and have back up plans. A little like treating myself to an Nintendo Switch. So, I’m going to enjoy new things, and embrace them when they are here.

43 mins and 14% remaining!!!!!!!!!!!! Just over my 500 word target too smiley face!
