Progress

It’s the small things in life that can make you happy. Especially if you’re the kind of person that makes the time to stop and be happy at the small things. Perhaps other people would be happy too. I’ll take moments of joy when get them.

We can treat ourselves, and may be spend a lot of money. But that doesn’t necessarily (little things like another first time spelling make me happy too!), bring joy. So what has made my day? It’s a toothbrush brought at the airport this morning. I made a price choice, and decided that five pounds was too much, so I picked the four pound option.

These days, four pounds gets you an electric toothbrush. The words “sonic cleaning power” almost gave it away, but it was very early. So imagine my surprise when it started buzzing. This is incredible! And I can use a rechargeable AAA battery when the current one runs out. This is the stuff of dreams.

I have a confession. The last few trips away have involved no toothbrush and no toothpaste. This sounds bad, I know. But on the other hand, my teeth are all very good. And right now, they feel smooth and clean.

So how is this progress? Perhaps I’m late to the four pound electric toothbrush that looks like a normal toothbrush game. I’m worried about telling anyone, in case I get laughed at. But I don’t care. I’ll tell everyone and be proud of what I’ve just found. Surely everyone should benefit from this new invention of the electric oral hygiene product which looks like a conventional one. Imaging the benefits to the country. Lives could be so different.

Now I know where this is going! Small things can make big changes in peoples’ lives. It’s the little things that can make us happy, or healthier. These things add up and over time can change things for the better. But big problems need big solutions. At least it feels that way.

Eat a little less (or more if you need to), read a book, do that thing in the house that just needs doing, go for a walk, call a friend, do some press-ups, laugh a little, be nice to someone who needs it. Pick something – anything. Or tell someone about a four pound electric toothbrush. Little things count. So keep doing the little things, and find something that makes you happy.
