I was going to have a rant about leaf blowers. A colleague mentioned them and was surprised about how annoyed I get about them. Luckily, I’ve moved on and I’m all calm again and all is ok with the world.
Last week was a short three day week for me. I didn’t go anywhere, but I read quite a lot and sorted some things out. It was one of those things that works out in the end. Having said that, this can’t go on and I must do stuff. The main reason is that I’ve sat around far too much in the past and there are many reasons for that.
I’m happy to say that things have changed. This weekend I’m using half of my Avios points and flying to Munich on Friday for £65, and using 95,000 Hilton points to pay for three nights in a nice hotel. All of this makes me feel very lucky.
There is another good thing. The me of the recent past has bought some gadgets that will keep me occupied when I’m away. There will be lots of writing for example. I might write about how Germany doesn’t have loud leaf blowers getting on my nerves. I may even spend time working how to make this blog look more creative and organized. Or I could start on a story. And finally, I could push the boat out and write something funny, but don’t hold your breath.
I want to see where I’m going, but most of the time you can’t plan for the future – if ever. When you’re stuck and don’t know what to do try something that is as random as possible. Computers use randomization to avoid processes being stuck, and that’s what I should do. Once we get stuck in a pattern of behaviours we become limited. Ideally, when you get older, you know what you like and can keep doing it until you’re old. These days we need to re-invent ourselves every now and then, because we are healthier longer and need to keep working. The trick is to work out which behaviours work in your favour and which ones to lose.
I’ll be sitting in cafes like I always do, but I won’t be drinking, which is new. And this is a big test for me. There are a many easier places to go if you’re staying off the drink. What the hell was I thinking ?!
My bags are packed, I’m a frequent flyer, my health is good, and I’m really looking forward to having a great mini adventure.
