I didn’t need to tune in to British news when I was away, but I did. Worse than that I get to watch ITV1 in the morning. The joy of Piers Morgan in the morgen! He ca become very passionate and pusuasive. He seems very certain, so he must be right.

London has a stabbing problem. 250 people have died due to knife crime, many of which where teenage school boys. What’s going on and why do we care?

The victims are almost exclusively black and the people doing the stabbings are black. This used to be referred to as black on black crime. It’s almost as if white people weren’t the victims it didn’t bother the rest of us and they could get on with it. But now children are dying and our social concious is being pricked. That and it probably will start to affect white people.

There is a problem calling this out as a black problem.Skin colour should not have any affect on peoples actions. This is misleading and there is a problrm where black people may be perceived and less inteligent, ormore violent. This is leading to calls for police stop and search, which accoring to Piers has a 30% hit rate on finding a weapon. And that seems like a good idea. The only problem would be if it actually cut the death rate.

I’m old enough to remember what stop and search policies did in the 80s. What we need is a smarter way to deal with this. Otherwise, every black person will be viewed as a threat. This is not good and doesn’t even address the causes of the killings. We’re all in this or we’re not. White people could end up walking arounf in fear (probably of house prices going down), or have a sense of superiority (and we know where that can lead to).

Let’s look at two issues:

1. Police cuts have cause the wave of killings: Possibly, but this sets the bar pretty low, especially if school children are the perpetrators.

2. Drugs: Drugs need a market and demand. Stop eveyone and see what they have.

The USA might look at us Brits and wonder why the knife crime. There answer is that if the victims had guns, they wouldn’t have died. But kids are carrying knives to protect themselves and they are dying anyway.

We’ve got used to a new normal, and black lives do matter. But don’t let the alt-right scare us. They have an agenda of anti imigration and a tendancy towards white supremacy.
