Blood Moon

The early hours of Monday morning will see a Super Wolf Blood Moon, that’s if you can see it. That’s not to say if you can’t see it , it’s not happening. Rather, it’s because it will happen between 0200 and 0500 GMT, and it will probably be cloudy. And it’s very early in the morning.

This lunar eclipse is special, not only because it is a total eclipse, it’s the closest the moon will be to the earth when this happens. It won’t happen for another ten years. I find this very exciting, but not exciting enough. After all, it’s not a supernova or anything really exciting and life threatening. There’ll be another once in a lifetime event in the skies next week anyway. So, I’ll look on the Web tomorrow and look at some pictures.

The Chinese are exploring the dark side of the moon at the moment. Although, the dark side isn’t dark. We just like to think so, because we can’t see it. This is impressive, as no other country has managed to land a craft on the other side. And part of me thinks the Chinese planned to be there when there was a red moon. It’s great propaganda, and maybe there are people without internet access who don’t understand these things. On the other hand, there maybe people in the USA who do understand, and think that the Chinese have turned the moon red.

Getting up early for the Blood Moon is just another one of the nice to do things, that I’m not going to do. And in this case, it’s probably fine that I don’t need to. If by some chance, I hear my alarm that I may or may not set, I’ll get out and have a look. Out moon in very special. On it’s own, it would be big enough to be a planet, and it’s 10% the size of Earth.

Luckily, these days we don’t read anything in to this type of event. We know what it is, and when it will happen again. For that reason, there’s no reason to panic, but deep down, there’s something inside that I can feel about it. This leads to the question about where these deep feelings come from. Did I pick these up from culture, or would I feel very worried if I saw a red moon and knew nothing about it? My feeling is that something bad would happen. And of course, a bad thing would happen in the future – bad things happen. But I wouldn’t know that, and so the red moon was a warning of a bad thing to come. I’d better get a sacrifice ready!
