I’m hoping that the snow will help me back in to the flow. Yes, we have snow again. This is just normal snow. When I say normal, I mean what winter was like before climate change started. If the small birds need a feed I have food for them – and a squirrel who worked out how to have his fill on my peanut feeder.
This isn’t about the weather, or feeding the birds. It could be a metaphor for tough times ahead. I’m helping the birds out, but what I’m really doing is helping myself by making the world a little better for me. I can do this because many of the big things have been addressed. The big things end up being a jigsaw of small things to. My new desk is an example. Looking at it in Ikea you’d never guess how many parts this starts life as. I’d still be putting it together three days on without the instructions. I bought it for a reason and now I’m going to use it.
On the tough times ahead metaphor, I’ve stockpiled food in case of a no deal Brexit. If I’m wrong about food shortages I’ll eat my own words! And having supplies in case of hard times is a great idea:
- Stocking up is cheaper. Fewer trips to the shops removes the urge to by the nice to have things.
- You never know when you’re going to be ill.
- I’m saving time in the long run.
- Planning ahead gives peace of mind.
There are many things that need to be in place to be in a position to start to get things right. When you’re in a mess getting out of that state isn’t easy at all. You’re using all your emotional and physical energy treading water. The problem is that you think you’re in the same place and don’t notice the current drifting you away from a better place, wherever that is. I might not have many choices in direction, but at least I have some control on the direction now. Options may be limited at the moment, but you never know where small changes may take you.
Success = Time x Effort x Ability
I forgot about the Success equation. It needs some tweaking, or I just could leave it like that. No, it definitely needs looking at. If I only get one blog out of I’ll have failed.
For the moment, I’m going to sit at my desk, watch the weather, and hope that the birds survived the snow.
