For the last few years, and a few more years, I’d been promising myself that I’d travel north to make sure I could make the most of the the longest days of the year. Without any real planning I’m here until Friday June 21. So on 20th June I can travel as far north up the mainland as I decide sensible and enjoy the sun (it’s summer, of course it will be sunny!).
I’me camping in the same place for five nights, so I might as well make an effort to drive up the road and see places I’ve never seen. After all, I might not come back again. This place is miles away, and I always make promises about re-visting places again. In this case, it is a really good place for a training camp. The only problem is that it takes a whole two days on the round trip. But then again, most places take agaes to travel to. I could take a train next time.
Being an eco-warrior these days I think it’s much better to find somewhere to train in the UK. Wales was a great find, but I haven’t been back again. I should find time to do that (if I can find the time in the middle of my journey in the coming couple of months).
It’s 2140 and it’s still light outside! That’s not anything special yet. I grew up with this around this in June (not so much where I live now 300 miles further south). When it’s still light after 2330, that’s when the long day becomes magic.
I’m thinking that the second pint on the second sitting of the day was too much. It will be four pints and this is my treat. I can’t do this tomorrow, and I’m driving to chase the sun on Thursday, so I’ll just enjoy this for now. I wouldn’t be typing this if I didn’t have this final pint. The bar near the campsite is the only place I can get a wifi signal and 2150 is way too early to go to bed and I don’t have all the kit I used to have to make sitting outside comfortable. What I need is a gas lamp, or candles. That’s something to think about when I’m getting my kit together next week.
I could leave the beer as it’s taking a while to drink, but it is really very good, so I’m going to give it the attention it deserves as it’s still only 2154 and light outside!
Tuesday starts with coffee and scambled eggs. I think I’ve grown up. My usual go-to would have been a Kelloggs variety pack. The pan will burn, but growing up isn’t easy!
