26th July 2019 – As Yet Untitled

I’m sitting ouside Le Cafe de Fouviere. It’s next to Notre Dame Fourviere, which is a pretty impressive cathedral. My train leaves for Geneva at 1238-1429 and then 1442-1626 to Bern. The man at the ticket office said I didn’t need to book a seat, so we’ll see how that works out on the day. I responded to emails from the hostel and I’m booked in, with a meal when I arrive on Saturday (Samedi).

I’m killing time getting ready for my bus 3 from Gorge du loup. I don’t know which cafe this is, but it’s one stop away on the metro. I have half a Heineken and a copy of Le Monde: Boris Johnson se fixe 99 jours pour le Brexit. And then this! Les ultras du divorce d’avec l’EU sont au pouvoir. The au pouvoir means assume power. Ultras is a way of explaining them. That word normally refers to hard core football hooligans in mainland Europe. It’s a vert strong word to use.

Today has gone well. I didn’t start very early in the day, but 1200 I was told by the man in the ticket office “no pay, no pay”. I double checked with “the man in seat 61” and he said there’s no reservations and it’s a great scenic route. Loads of trains run from Geneva to Bern too, so everything is good. My camera is charging, my phone is charged, and my tent is holiding up to the cloud burst that just happened – at least I hope it has. I’m still enjoying a roof over my head with a sofa. I have about 30 minutes before it closes at 2300 and I get a soaking on the way to my home of the last five nights. I think I left party of my rucksack stcking outside my tent! It’ll be fine.
