I think I’ve been on holiday for about at least six weeks.First I went to Aveimore, then to Pembrokeshire, then on 18th July to Paris. Tonight will be my 15th night in a tent, give or take a day or two. And finding my campsite for tonight was pretty easy with Grindelwald wifi. It’s in a nice spot down by the river. There’s a walk up and down a hill, but it’s very close to town. I booked in for 22.40CH and went back in to town for a big bag of crisps before my final walk up the other hill to the hostel to collect my bags. There was a small tumble walking down the loose 20% track, but all is fine, I think. So what to do? The Pfingstegg cable car is five munutes walk away. Let’s do that! And as I’m in no rush to do anything I’m having a large lager with a great view.Next stop, the Pfingstegg toboggan run. I’m enjoying being a tourist! I could hike around here, but I’ve been lugging a big rucksack and a small rucksack around. I’ve had enough of a workout aleady.I’m back in the bar\restaurant with the great view. I had one ride on the tobbogan and one is enough. I’m a danger t myself and the general public. The problem is this – you don’t need to use the breaks. It wasn’t long before I caught up to the lady wearing a hijab in front. I slowed down, knowing that there was mother and small child behind. So, I left a gap and let the breaks off again. This was almost a disaster. I slammed the breaks on and half fell out without crashing in to her. I have a friction burn on my knee and decided paying 27CH for sausage and fries was a safer option than riding again. I really want to ride again!
For having no plan, today has flown by. It’s the eve of the national day in Switzerland and there were celebrations with some food and free beer. The music was fun and there were some very loud fireworks. In the carpark there were a couple of young adults playing with small, but still dangerous explosives too. After two free beers, sausage and rosti seemed like a good idea. It was! Then I bought a beer after the freebies were over.If you pick a good campsite, camping is great. I have the noise of a fast flowing river and distant fireworks. This is everything I want from camping. This extra night was a blessing. Breakfast is sorted, but I have eaten my biscuits. Not to worry, I still have two yogourts and some orange juice. I bought half a bottle of wine for a bargain 5.50CH. No screwe top! Luckily, a Dutch guy had a great Swiss Army knife. I’d have brought mine, but getting it passed Eurostar security would have been a problem.I’ll have an early’ish start in the morning. I want to go indoor bouldering an I need to plan the day to get to Zurich for the night train.
