Apparently we’re not supposed to call it that.
Black Eye Friday is the last Friday of work for many people before Christmas. Traditionally, the drinking starts as soon as work stops and the beer induced incidents start. But media outlets were strongly advised not to call it BEF because this might encourage bad behaviour. So, I was happy to see it named in a Facebook post today. It’s like Catchphrase – “Say whay you see“.
There’s a lot of news out there today, but BEF hasn’t even had a mention. The big news was the Prince Consort and second cousin to the Queen isn’t dead. He has been driven from Sandringham to London for observtion. He’s not dead. News would be if he’d kicked the bucket, but he hasn’t. I suppose it’s the type of news we used to get at this time of year. To be honest, I can’t remember much before the event of June 2016. No one knows what life was like before, so I suppose wall to wall news about something that really isn’t news is a good idea. It’s a sign that everything is fine and we can carry on as normal.
I have absolutley no evidence to back up the next thing I’m going to say
The old guy is getting on a bit and any health scare is big news. By going to hospital and being back for Christmas he’s shaped the news agenda. I expect that he’s doing this for Queen and country under some orders. That’s the world of media manipulation we live in. Or not! I’m not going to give it too much thought on today of all days – this special day!
That’s all I have to say today, appart from some monumental Brexit Withdrawal Act being passed in Parliament by 128 votes today. And on 31 Jan next year we’ll be out of the EU by the end of 2021 – deal ot no deal, but it will be a good deal. The thing is that any negotiations will be held in secret and the public or Parliament will not be informed about any of it. All we have is faith and trust in the negotiators, of which many of us don’t have and that’s why we won’t be kept up to date. Nevertheless, people are celebrating for reason they can’t explain. But what’s that? An aging Royal is poorly? Don’t look there, look here.
And to think I wouldn’t hit the 400 word target! All I need to do is let the handbreak off and let the nonsense flow.
