Seal

It’s Christmas too

Christmas Day is almost gone now. That’s it until next year. The day is so far gone, it’s almost the end of Boxing Day.

This entry will be written, I think it’s Saturday now. Any other Christmas I’d have been confused about the day of the week, but now I’ve become used to it not being important. It is important in some ways and not in others. Boxing Day is a distant memory, but I still want to talk about the seal.

Over the last year, I’ve decided that there’s still some life out there. There are a couple things you need to to. The first is to look for it. The second is to give it a home, or more correctly to give it’s home back. Bird feeding if fine, but it doesn’t beat having a natural environment. What feeding does, is give the birds a chance to thrive while we wait to plant some trees and allow hedgerows to grow back.

The same is true for seals. They’ll come back if the water is clean. And if the water is clean, they can eat. It’s a good sign for everyone when there’s loads of pesky seals eating all of those fish the fishermen will complain about when the seals are having breakfast, brunch, and dinner. Bloody seals, eating out British fish! Back off.

This kind of thing should been on the news. Clean water in the sea should be something we can all be proud of. But to point that out would be to highlight how bad the environment has been in the past, not that most people seem to care. The good news is that more and more people do notice this kind of thing, but you can’t point it out because of a small number of knuckleheads out there.

When I got home, I did a quick Google search all I found was a story about a quad bike running over a baby seal that had washed up on the beach. The poor thing was probably on its last legs, but still, this is awful. The other story was about a young woman who was punched on the nose when she was out walking her dog. All she did was to ask them to stop torturing a seal pup. There was nothing about how great it was to see seals again.

This is a story of hope and I’m happy to see the seal. All I can hope is that the become more streetwise and fight back.
