This is worrying

I was going to write about the British Army’s recruitment campaign to convince young people that joining would be a great idea. The new plan is to convince the yooph of today that they lack confidence. I’m not invested in finding out, but I heard stories on the radio about how great being in the army was and how it gave people confidence and skills. But for some reason there is a problem keeping serving soldiers and maybe the army isn’t that great after all. The key takeaway is that young people are rubish, with no confidence, and always look for short term confidence boosts.
It can’t be easy being young these days when you have older people who had council houses, free higher education, great pension schemes, and jobs for life that they have it easy and thing have never been so great. Things are great and this is a great time to live. Quality of life has improved vastlty, until about ten years ago, anyway. This is a great time to be alive. The only problem is that there’s a cloud hanging over us. It could be possible that our civilization has peaked and now we can see over the precipice of our decline. Confidence isn’t going to make young people or anyone feel better when our planet is on fire.
From a natural disaster point of view, the fires in Australia are as bad as the planet has seen. Luckily, only eight people have died, but the effect of the air polution may be seen in the months to come. Koalas are now classed as being functionally extinct because they have lost their habitat and the surviving population sisn’t big enough to cope with a disease. And it gets worse. And estimated half a billion animals have died.
Worse disasters have happened on the planet, of course they have. The problem is that humans have been a huge part of the problem. I don’t know if the current fires could have been predicted, but Australia has suffered droughts for three years or more. And what makes this worse is that the fires are going to get worse over the weekend as tempratures soar to record highs. But it does get worse. Even Australia, a predominately white country of European descent isn’t enough to kick the world’s leaders in to climate action. This is an outrage.

In other news, Norway recorded it’s highest winter temprature of 19C today. That’s 2nd Janurary 2020. Buckle up. This is going to be a rough ride.
