I know I like the Kodak 66, but the Olympus Trip 35 is the perfect street photography snapper.
A few weeks ago, I was knocking on doors and delivering leaflets for the Green Party. This was the chance to take a camera with me, which I took. And I’d like to think that I took the best shot I’ve ever taken. This was because of my hopeless sense of direction and an eye for a good picture. So here it is!

Say what you see. There’s a large stuffed monkey on the street. But there’s more than that. It’s sitting next to a pool of sick and it looks as if the monkey has either tried to wipe up the sick, or got some sick on it’s hand when he was sick. What the hell was going on here? All I can think is that it was an art student. That’s all it can be. Otherwise, the story could be tragic.
I have a slight regret. If only I’d found an off-license and bought a can of special brew or a three litre bottle of dangerous cider. But perhaps, that might have filled in too many gaps in the story of the picture.
Every time I look at Mr\Mrs\Miss\Ms\They monkey it makes me smile, because monkey is smiling. But monkey is clearly having a hard time. For a start, how would a Toy Story film deal with this one? It’s truly awful, but hey, there’s a happy monkey! The other thing that makes me happy is knowing that my Cinestill 50D film worked. This film is not cheap. And now I feel anxious because I’ve just knocked the bloody camera of a coffee table!
What else did I do when I saw this? I just walked on by of course. This was a problem I wouldn’t have easily have dealt with, just as walking past a homeless person on the street. The difference is that I wouldn’t have taken the photo. it would have been the wrong thing to do, even if I offered them some money. Or maybe offering some money would be a good thing, but that could be a difficult conversation. Either way, something/someone who was once loved is discarded on the street and ignored.
Times are tough right now and maybe, just maybe people will pull together. But part of me thinks that doing that will play in to the hands of our current leadership who will take credit for their policy of doing nothing and hoping good people will pick up the pieces for them, while they take the credit.
The next blog may or may not be about the Coronovirus pandemic.
