100

That sounds about right.

The number 100 has an arbitrarily meaning in the British culture. I don’t know about the rest of the world, but it’s important here. In cricket, it’s the ton, the century, the amount of runs that is much more important than 99. In athletics, the blue riband event is the 100 metres sprint. And in the UK being caught speeding at 100 mph will lead to a driving ban (unless you have a good solicitor). In short, it’s the smallest large number in the base 10 number system.

Today is the hundredth day since the UK went in to lockdown on March 23rd. I haven’t checked this myself. I’ve heard someone say this on the TV earlier and it sounds about right. All the same, it sounds significant. But when you think about it, it means nothing. That’s probably why I’ve only heard it once and that’s enough for me.

Now I’ve started to think about it, why are soccer matches 90 minutes long and not 100 minutes in duration? I’m going to have to look this up now, but that would break my rules. I suppose it’s because time always gets added on, but I have a feeling it’s something to do with going to the pub after the game. Rugby Union is only 80 minutes long and they need to be in the pub earlier.

None of this is about 100. It’s about an emotional response. That’s why we are here why we are here. And that’s where I am where I am. But on the plus side, it was enough to trigger me in to typing something. How if feel is a mix of:

And this:

Yeah. I know I’m just adding pictures to flesh things out, but I am jealous of the young goldfinch catching 40 winks. And sometimes I feel like a worn out blue tit.

I miss my 100 press-up obsession. Sometime I must have given up after I’d exceeded the target. I’ll have worn myself out. I’m worn out now. Since May 25th I’ve been knackered. My legs have been tired, moving around had been difficult, and my legs really hurt.

My body needs maintenance. It’s like an old car that needs attention. I’m doing that now and giving my legs a good stretch. The question is if I could have done this before. And if I could, why I didn’t. All I can think is that I couldn’t and I haven’t been well.

What I think I’ll do now is stretch my legs for 100 seconds and hope that’s the magic number.
