Super Spreader Saturday

After 103 days, the pubs are open again!

I haven’t be out much since 25th May. Previous to that, I’d been out on the bike and starting to ride well again. The problem was that I was tired and I pushed on. Then I had one ride too many and I was out of gas. It’s only been the last couple of days where I’ve regained some energy and I’m still not right. But there hasn’t been any reason to go out. The shops have been shut and the weather has been either too hot or too miserable.

Not going out, except for food shopping has been the best thing to do for me and other people. The problem is that this year has well past the half way point and it will be Christmas again soon. Something has to happen or else this year will be a complete right off. So, this afternoon I decided to ride in to town and have a look around.

July 4th 2020 is a big day for England. This part of the UK is leading the way in opening the pubs. It had to happen and with a bit of luck we might just get away with it. So today was a day I needed to get out and have a look. But given the time of day it was difficult to spot any difference with the pubs. What I did notice was more people in town than I expected and queues outside shops. My main feeling was that the town centre was feeling a little strange. Time will tell how things work out and there’s every chance that the early good behaviour will turn in to a national disaster.

Tomorrow, I’ll head out in to town and explore more of this new “normal”. What I did like for a while was the lockdown town with only a few people out. It felt a little dangerous and now it doesn’t feel that way, but probably could be much worse. The thing is that we need to adapt and I’m not sure how that’s going to work out. Pubs need to sell lots of beer to make money and shops need to sell their wears. The current changes may be short lived and were in place to cover up news we don’t need to hear.

I took some pictures of the goings on in town, but they weren’t very good. So here’s one of the feral pigeon pictures I took.

See you on the second spike!
