The world is changing.
I need to get a few short blogs out of the way every now and then. The last one was about the mystery bird. And some time I’ll find out what it is.
The last few months have been absolutely fucking awful. It could have been much worse, and it will have been for many other people. None of this is made better when six months before Covid-19 our Government in its wisdom decided to dispand the pandemic response team. But when you find out who the shower of bastards were, you’ll realise that nothing would have changed.
In many ways, our country was so unequipt to deal with a pandemic. We’ve been running at 99% for years. Some people were doing well, but the vast majority were living on the edge with debt, unpaid overtime, and long commutes. But that’s fine right?
Firsly, personal debt has been making up for poor wages and rising prices over the last 20 years. But hang on – housing prices haven’t been included in inflation – silly me. Prices haven’t been going up, except when they have. And that means that wages haven’t needed to go up.
Secondly, commuting has become awful with traffic jams and crowded trains.
Thirdly, people are only there to be monetised. If you’re financially inactive you are worthless.
Things could be better. For a start, there is a backlash of people who don’t want to return to the office, and I don’t blame them. This seems to be driving the Government and there advisors up the wall. They are not doing what they are been told to do – mainly because they were told not to.
Slowly, things will become better, but the people will have to adapt and make it better. Slowly, we are becoming an outside culture. Pubs are making room outside for drinking and I like it. Pubs are my expertise at the moment, but things are improving. Air quality is better now and we can become fitter and healthier. And finally, there is a magic money tree.
We’ll learn more about the magic money tree later, but for the next entry I’ll talk about corruption and where the money is going.
