Vitamin D

Before I start – Hello China!

I’m not a vitamin pill kind of person. After reading Bad Science by Ben Goldacre the conclusion was that, unless you have a specific problem, you will get all the vitamins you need from a balanced diet. And that’s why I didn’t bother with them. After all, what was I expecting from taking them? How would I measure any effect? And that’s why I take vitamins now. I just went what the heck!.

Back in March this year when I was buying supplies and definitely not stockpiling, I put some multi vitamins in my shopping basket. These pills were left untouched until November. I was saving them until I was ill at any time, which I was and didn’t think about taking any suppliments. This must be put down to not thinking correctly, which is something that happens quite a lot with me.

Vitamin D is something we can’t get from food. I never thought I’d need it in winter. And I don’t know if I need it during the winter when these less sunlight to help produce it. But with the Covid thing going around it seemed like a good idea. Whether or not it’s doing me any good I have no idea at all and I won’t worry about it if I miss a day or two – which I haven’t. The suppliments I’m taking are cheap and I’ll just keep taking them for now. Once winter is over, I’ll stop taking the D and get out in the sun, unless I’m working night shifts in a warehouse or something.

Now that I come to think of it, there have been times in the last two months when I’ve been lethargic, but there have times when my energy levels have been good – mostly not great, though. Oh, I don’t know, the decision’s been made. I try to look after myself, because I need to. If I didn’t, I’d be a complete mess. There’s been to many beers and tubes of Pringles on the way, but I think I might have got away with it. Being 25 years younger would help, though.
