Prince Phillip is Dead

It’s not really too much of a surprise.

Back in the days when I was more fluent and free tapping something out on a keyboard, this post would have taken ten minutes at the most. That would include a few beers and distractions. These days I have more things to think about and all of this seems pointless. Some day I’ll return and see how many times I’ve repeated this sentiment. Bt every now and then, something happens that needs my attention. This is one of those times, even if it is a day late. I suppose this gives me the chance to process a few things.

Let’s face it, our favourite and only Prince Consort has popped his clogs. He didn’t look well and had been in and out of hospital for the past twenty years. Most of his subjects wouldn’t have had the medical support he had to make it to 99 years and ten months. Wealth and priviledge can bring a long eventful life. His main job was to stay alive and support the Queen, which he seems to have done very well, but we’ll never really know what goes on in the house of Saxe Coberg-Gotha (aka the house of Windsor).

None of this is about him. To be honest, I don’t really care. What I do appeciate is that it is a big deal for the Royal Family and for the country, but not for everyone in the country. It’s just a bad time for this to happen. Lockdown is easing again on April 12th and our great leader, Boris has cancelled a photoshoot in a pub with him petending to neck a pint. This is something we could all do without. More photo opportunities for the blonde buffoon are only a bad thing, and at the same time, the only thing he seems to do. If I have a couple of coins, I’ll be in a beer garden and suggest that no one else changes their plans either.

Since getting rid of my TV eight years ago, I don’t watch much live telly. I don’t switch the box on and channel surf. You’ll know that I watch snooker and other sport, and sometimes the news. So what happened yesterday shouldn’t have affected me. What happened was that I felt more locked down than I have all year. There was a feeling that if I listened to the radio or watched any TV channel everything would be wall to wall Prince Phillip. That alone isn’t a bad thing, but the people telling stories about how he served us was going to be too much. Judging by the feedback and low viewing figures on the BBC, it was.

I could go on, but my work here is done for today.
