Kolkata

I need food and beer.

Food doesn’t seem to give me energy anymore. Eating leaves the area inside me, where ever that is, without the power I want. Sometimes, it’s in my head, sometimes in my chest. At the same time, I’m moving around and looking normal in my my own way. But I’m not right. None of this has any connection to what I was planning to write about, but that’s not unusual.

What is this about then? It’s about a feeling(s). I don’t feel great, but I feel alright. But I don’t feel right. Why do I feel slightly happy that England lost to Scotland in their first game of the 2022 Six Nations Rugby Union Championship? I don’t like asking questions here. When I do, I make a point of pointing that out. I’m English and I’m happy that Scotland won. But the thing is that I think on the whole, the English are twats. It’s not our fault, and I always thought of myself as British. And as much as I hate to admit it, I never realised that I was in the United Kingdom. I did, but I always thought of myself as benig in Great Britain. I am, but I’m also part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This, I know. But we are Team GB in the Olympics. All of which confuses our national identity.

The British like and underdog. And that’s why I’m happy that Scotland won 20-17 today. I didn’t watch it because I’m not all that in to Rugby Union.y problem being that there is too much investment of national pride in the game. And I understand the reasons why the other nations want to beat us so much. Except the French. I want to beat them.

There’s something about English Rugby Union I don’t like. And when I say that, I mean the Southern England Rugby Union. There’s so much bundled up in this identity. It’s WWII and Brexit. And yet, the North will get the Blame for voting for this and the shockingly awful Boris Johnson Tory Government that is fucking us over. And every step of the way, the wrong people will get the blame.

As always, I have no real idea where I was going with this, but why is a game of rugby between Scotland and England called the Calcutta Cup, when India renamed the city Kolkata?
