Gas Chambers

Free speech is in danger. A Scottish YouTube comedian has been found guilty and may be sent to jail on 23rd April 2018. I have no comment on the Count Dankular case. Enough has been said already.

My feelings are about slowly sliding in to a dystopia and we know it. Some of us do anyway. Others don’t care. Hard work will be rewarded, and hard work is it’s own reward.;

There’s a Talking Heads lyric, and I may be misquoting them, but here goes:

“We don’t want justice, we don’t want freedom. We just want someone to love”

But it is just a song, but love would be nice. We can cross our fingers and hope that we are the lucky Alphas where this doesn’t apply. Or maybe we could be the downtrodden Prolls who know where they are in society, know they are stuck were they are, and know they’ll be pretty much left on their own as long as they know their place. Give them some aspirations anyway, before the system knocks them down. You can always order a litre of beer and think about your life.

I’m sure I saw the Nazi Pug dog video a year or two ago. I thought it was in bad taste and moved on. It wasn’t an instruction manual, it was just something that really wouldn’t have been a million miles near being on TV. Unless of course, it was a Father Ted episode.

I hate mission statements. But I will make an exception. What do we stand for? Surely we can come to some compromise of what kind of society we want to to live in. Unfortunately, politics has become polarised. And just when we think we know what’s going on, some people’s polarity switches, and left becomes right, the right become liberal, and the let become authoritarian wanting to shut down conversation. No one knows anything. You could be an expert, but experts get things wrong and who listens to them anymore? Yes, experts who know things are being ignored in favour of feelings.

I like experts. They keep aircraft in the air. They make sat-nav work, and eradicated smallpox. Some things can’t be accurately predicted such as just how climate change is going to affect us. We can see a pattern, but we don’t know exactly what the weather will be like in Bournemouth in 2028. Just like we can see a pattern now.

The simple act of saying things, or indeed thinking things (religion) can lead to punishment. One in this world, and the other in the next. The world is becoming very confused, and desperate efforts to make sure the past horrors, which only really seem to apply to Europe appear to be leading us directly to the problems of the 20th Century. I’m not going to say the ‘H’ word. Outrage normally kicks off when these references are made.

Free speech and freedom will leave through the back door. And we’ll vote them out and not even notice.

But will we even notice?
