History is happening and lots of people know it.
I don’t watch the Queen’s Speech at Christmas, when it is broadcast in the morning. Generally, it’s the same thing about a tough year and how her family feels what you feel. One thing is true, I don’t bother at Christmas. Everytyhing is normally leaked in the newspapers days before anyway. There was a time when this leaking was a news story in itself. The second untruth\truth is that the speech is normally broacast around 1630 on Christmas Day. And you’ll have to look back in the historical records to understand the reference.
It would have been very easy to ignore the Queen and catch up later, but I decided it was worth five minutes of my time to see if she said what the news feeds said she was going to say. And frankly, it didn’t exactly fill me with joy. Pretty much the NHS and key workers are doing a great job, which they are. We’ve heard this before and we’ve heard that the British will defeat the virus. Then there was this at the end:

This image covers a few bases:
- I downloaded this from my Facebook feed. And I have enough ad-blockers and other things not to be bombarded with adverts I don’t need and don’t want. Somehow, the algorithms decided that I was in the Classic FM demographic and posts from them is about all I’ve had for well over a year now. I don’t even listen to them. If I’m being honest, it’s BBC Radio 3 for Daily Mail and Daily Express readers.
- This has just come in to my mind and gone again. There must be a meaning behind the green.
- Nothing was mentioned, as far as I can remember about the Government doing a good job.
- The “We’ll meet again” reference at the end. Give me a break! I’m sure this went down well in some circles, but another WWII reference just pushed me over the edge.
The whole broadcast had a feeling of a begining with tough times ahead. This was too much like the King’s Speech. We are screwed.
Just in! Not long after the Queen’s broadcast, we have the news that Boris has gone to hospital for tests. He’s had ten days of a high temperature. This sounds bad and it is bad. He isn’t one of the people I hope really suffers, but he is and absolute fuckwit for being on record about shaking hands with everyone. Nothing about what he said will age well. I suppose I hope he ages well, but what he’s going to do after he leaves his current job is a mystery.
Edit: 6th April 2020
I try to avoid afterthoughts, but I’m adding this:
Whilst I do wish Boris Johnson a swift recovery, I’m also suppressing the urge to tell him and man up and grow a pair.
The other reason I want him to recover is to live long enough to face the consequences of his words and actions.
